Fire and Rescue Assessment Refunds
The fire-rescue assessment on the 2008 property tax bill is for the 2008-2009 Fiscal Year (Oct. 1, 2008 – Sept. 30, 2009). A refund may be obtained for the fire-rescue assessment if the assessment amount, which appears on the 2008 property tax bill, is incorrectly charged in excess of what is actually due for the parcel. The property tax bill must be paid through the Lake County Tax Collector’s Office for the refund to apply; otherwise, a certificate of correction form may be submitted by the Office of Budget to the Lake County Tax Collector’s Office to correct an unpaid property tax bill.
Hardship Assistance for Fire and Rescue Assessments
The Board of County Commissioners established guidelines for low income and asset levels, which determine eligibility for hardship assistance. The property owner may apply for hardship assistance through the Department of Community Services for the fire-rescue assessment. The deadline for application submittal is March 31 of each year. For more information regarding hardship assistance, call (352) 742-6501.
