The Road Operations Division is responsible for the maintenance and signage of all Lake County arterial, collector and local roads.

There are more than 1,300 miles of County-maintained roadway and of this figure, approximately 170 miles are clay roads. Maintenance crews repair potholes, mow shoulders (except on clay roads), maintain adequate drainage, provide shoulder repair, trim trees and more.

This work is done on a schedule in the particular maintenance area or as needed. The County is divided into three maintenance areas.
  1. Area I is headquartered in Leesburg and is responsible for County-maintained roadways located west of the Haynes Creek Bridge and the Beauclair Canal and south to the Florida Turnpike. For more information, call (352) 787-0074.
  2. Area II is headquartered in Minneola and is responsible for County-maintained roadways located south of the Florida Turnpike. For more information, call (352) 394-2559.
  3. Area III is headquartered in Umatilla and is responsible for County-maintained roadways located east of the Haynes Creek Bridge and the Beauclair Canal, up to Astor. For more information, call (352) 669-2814.

The Special Projects Section is like a Maintenance Area that covers the entire County.  Before the formation of this section, a Maintenance Area would have to suspend normal operations to complete a special project such as double-surface treating a road.  Now, the Special Projects team can complete such a project and allow that Maintenance Area to continue with their regularly scheduled workload.

The Traffic Operations Section, located at 28127 County Road 561, Tavares, is responsible for the fabrication and/or installation of traffic control devices, including signs, pavement markings and traffic signals. Traffic signs are inspected on a regular basis for wear or vandalism. This section also maintains all traffic signals in the County maintenance system as well as certain state and local traffic signals. For more information, call (352) 742-1766.
